Morphologic variations like the enamel and dentin of primary teeth are just half as thick as that in permanent teeth, therefore, is correspondingly closer to the outer surface, and improper oral hygiene practices make primary dentition more prone to the vagaries of dental caries leading to early or rapid involvement of pulp and frequent need for pulp therapy in the primary dentition.1 Premature loss of primary teeth from dental caries and infection may result in the number of sequelae: loss of arch length, insufficient space for erupting permanent teeth, ectopic eruption and impaction of premolars, mesial tipping of molar teeth adjacent to primary molar loss, extrusion of opposing permanent teeth, the shift of the midline with a possibility of cross bite occlusion, development of certain abnormal tongue positions.
